Mandatory warranty provides one year coverage for defects in materials and labour starting on the warranty commencement date. This addresses issues with the way your home was built or the materials it was built with, and includes such items as flooring, paint and trim.
Mandatory warranty providers two years coverage for defects in materials and labour related to heating, electrical and plumbing, starting on the warranty commencement date. This applies to single-family homes, multi-family units and multi-family common property.
Mandatory warranty provides five years’ coverage for defects in the building envelope, which the New Home Buyer Protection Act defines as the system of components that separate the controlled interior air from the exterior. This includes the wall insulation and cladding, starting on the warranty commencement date. This applied to single-family homes and multi-family common properties.
Mandatory warranty provides 10 years coverage for structural defects. We cover the key structural components (such as the framing and foundation) of single-family homes and multi-family units, starting on the warranty commencement date. Coverage applies to defects in materials, labour and design that results in the failure of a load-bearing part of the new home and any defect that cause structural damage that materially and adversely affects the homeowners' ability to use and occupy the home.
Mandatory warranty provides an optional warranty coverage for defects in the building envelope for an additional two-year period.
In the unlikely event of default by a Builder Member, Deposit Insurance covers a purchaser's deposits, from time of the initial deposit, to when the warranty coverage commences.
